Create Torrent "preserve file order"

Post by Muzak »

Hi,  I just ran into this at a private site, heard of it, but never seen it before.  They require the .torrent file to have the filename embedded in the torrent in order by name.  Apparently other clients either do this by default, or have an option that forces the files to be included in the proper order.  In uT it's "preserve file order".  Since I'm moving (as quickly as possible) away from uT, I'd like to suggest that this option be added to qBit to make it more compliant with some of the private scene trackers.

Are you sure that this isn't the default behavior of qbt anyway?
(I never tested it)

I wonder why on earth they think it even matters?

The staff member I chatted with didn't know "it's always been this way".... ok, whatever... fine....

Probably to minimize dupes?

Doubtful, what the BT/uT "Preserve file order" does is create the metadata in 'file name' order rather than the BT/uT default of size order (http://www.bittorrent.com/intl/en/help/ ... file_order)

Maybe it goes back to the early days of BitComet and the "Padding Files" that it added to fill the 'gaps' to prevent cross file pieces :)  (yes I'm now being facetious or possibly fatuous) but one can only wonder at the 'requirements' that [not so] 'private' tracker operators impose on their unfortunate membership.

Oh, I've not heard of this since many years ago, padding torrents.

I actually think it's just because it's easier to tell if all the tracks or episodes are in a torrent that contains a full album or season of a tv show.  In any case I agree it's a silly requirement....
