ubuntu network interface not locked

I am having a problem 'locking' the network interface. If my vpn is running when I start qB no problem it selects tun 0, but if the vpn is not running when I start qB it selects Any Interface. I have tried restarting qB reinstalling qB and rebooting Ubuntu to no avail.
Ubuntu 11.10
qBittorrent 2.9.5
