I have reached the qBittorrent dir but don't know where to go from here:-
ray@ray-Aspire-5735:~/.config/qBittorrent$ ls
qBittorrent.conf qBittorrent-resume.conf
ray@ray-Aspire-5735:~/.config/qBittorrent$
Then I did this:-
ray@ray-Aspire-5735:~/.config/qBittorrent$ rm qBittorrent.conf
ray@ray-Aspire-5735:~/.config/qBittorrent$ rm qBittorrent-resume.conf
ray@ray-Aspire-5735:~/.config/qBittorrent$
Am I doing the right things?

I don't know. I'm Windows only user I presume you must delete all and then make fresh install.

Yes, rm should be the proper method, but it may have been created with elevated privileges or generally required to show elevated privileges to delete from within a hidden folder so "sudo rm" would be more accurate. Or make sure that after doing rm that it did in fact delete the files.
Then re-open qbittorrent to confirm it has done what you wanted it to do.
