Why is "Size on disk" different than "Size"?

Post by Archivist »

I am trying to copy over my old torrent directory from my old pc to my new one.

Windows 11 states that the "Size on disk" is only 721GB. But the "Size" is 4.36TB.

How can I copy over the smaller directory? Do some files at a time?

Hi,

Calculation is different (1000 or 1024 bytes based) but here with your difference I bet the compression is enabled for files or folders

Also -- Last block/cluster used to store a file isn't filled typically because of the files not being exactly divisible by the cluster size.

Won't matter more than a couple kilobytes for a single file torrent...but a torrent that has 1000+ files, that can add up to a few megabytes.
