How To get qBittorrent to recognize already completed torrents?

Post by KmIgh »

I have a bunch of already completed torrents, mixed with some torrents with missing files, and I don't know which is which.

So I loaded them all, and qBittorrent is downloading them *ALL* again, even though a good number of them are already completed.

I unchecked the option "Keep incomplete torrents in:" option, thinking maybe that confused it, but it just caused it to get "stuck" on "Checking resume data" when doing a verify.

For the torrents that are already completed, right click on them in the main screen and select "Set Location...".  You'll want to navigate to where the file/directory is saved to and then hit "OK".  Once back in the main screen, right click that same torrent again and hit "Force Check".  If you pointed qBittorrent to the right location, it'll go through the file's hashes and make sure it's all there and all the files have the correct hash.  You'll need to do this with each individual torrent.

Hope that helps.

Well, that didn't quite work, but I've made some progress I think.

It seems it's only checking the default save path. Testing results below.

Anybody have any suggestions? I'm so frustrated with this software.  :'(

Let's use Fedora torrent for example.

C:\Downloads (default save path)
C:\Downloads\OS (torrent completed here)

Add torrent, set category OS, force recheck -> starts downloading again
Add torrent, set save location to C:\Downloads\OS, force recheck -> starts downloading again
Copy files from C:\Downloads\OS to C:\Downloads\ , add torrent -> passes check as 100% complete, begins seeding
Delete files from C:\Downloads, add torrent, set location to C:\Downloads\OS -> starts downloading again.

Jeb_Kerman is actually correct, that is the only way and proper way to handle the situation you are in.

You have to make sure, if you are downloading a folder you point it to the directory of that folder, do not point it to the folder itself. qbittorent will check the directory for that folder. so for example if you have "downloads > movie #1" and movie #1 is not checking in qbittorent make sure you set the location to "downloads" and not the "downloads > movie #1" folder.

it is a little confusing at first, but you get the hang of it. it is not the app itself. make sure you have set the proper location and still indeed have the same files.

hope I helped, not being rude.

Thank you so much!
Now (version 4.4.1) you don't even have to Set Location for every file. If all already downloaded files are in the same place, you should only set it in Tools / Preferences / Downloads / Default Save Path, and then add as many torrent file as you want, then select them all, right-click and "Force recheck". And "Resume" to let upload them to everybody :)
