Is there any way of reducing the number of writes, and therefore stress, that qBittorrent makes to disk? Specifically an SSD drive.
I realise downloading will inevitably require writing to the disk. But I understand that the way torrents are written could dramatically reduce the lifecycle of an SSD drive. So perhaps this could be by settings up and using a large cache or buffer.
Any ideas on what I could try changing? I really don't want to use a hard drive as they are noisy and slow.
How to reduce writes to SSD?
Re: How to reduce writes to SSD?
No need. Look up your "TBW" for your SSD.
For example:
- Samsung 1TB SSD NVME
- 600TBW
So 600TB. On a 1TB drive.
Imagine you download 300GB a day. You can download 300GB a day, every single day, for 2000 (!!!) days until it dies.
Of course you won't download 300GB each day. And 2000 days is 5+ years.
So feel free to download.
I know people who "race" with SSDs because of how much TBW they can take.
