qbittorrent automatically downloads deleted files

Post by quikly »

Hi. Why after physically deleting a folder with downloaded files and restarting the programme it starts downloading files again and recreating the folder hierarchy? How can I make it so that after deleting files the programme does not start downloading them again every time I run it?

Delete the file + torrent in qBittorrent. If you right click and click Remove, you have the option to "Also permanently delete the files".

I get it, it works. But it's inconvenient. Why can't I just delete downloaded files and folders from the disc, so they won't download spontaneously from now on. This works in other torrent trackers (e.g. µTorrent), but for some reason it doesn't work in qbittorent!

This never worked in uTorrent. uTorrent always worked 100% the exact same way. If I delete a file outside, it will throw an error.

qBittorrent is re-downloading files because it still sees them as active torrents. When you delete the downloaded files but not the torrent files or metadata, qBittorrent recognizes the torrents as incomplete and attempts to re-download the missing data. To prevent this, make sure to also remove the torrent files from the qBittorrent interface. Go to the qBittorrent interface, right-click the torrents associated with the deleted files, and select "Delete" or "Delete Torrent" (choose the option that also removes the associated files if needed). This action will ensure that qBittorrent no longer attempts to re-download the files and will not recreate the folder hierarchy.
