IP Filter blocks local IP

Post by acrox999 »

Long time uTorrent user here. I'm trying to switch from uTorrent and I chose qBittorrent since Deluge just won't work.

Back to the topic at hand, it seems that the IP filtering system is somewhat 'broken' as it keeps blocking my own local IP and made me lost a lot of peers. Everything returns to normal as I disabled it. I'm using the same ipfilter.dat that I've been using in uTorrent (http://ipfilterupdater.sourceforge.net) and this has never happened before in uTorrent.

But it's partially qBittorrent's fault, as the ipfilter.dat itself have my IP in its range (which is kind of funny). My suggestion is to add a local IP detector or some sort and add the client's local IP into a 'whitelist', regardless of the IP ranges in the ipfilter.dat. I don't know how uTorrent did it, but it might be similar to my concept.

The request itself does not seem to be too complicated though. Not sure if Sledge wants to further implement such features...

Ps.: There is really no point in using blacklists.
If you are afraid, use VPNs, seedboxes, or proxies like BTGuard.
But an IP list won't help you. They connect to the same tracker as you do, and they won't use registered IPs. Tracking users is simple, and can be done via a 1mbps DSL line already. So the whole IP block/filter thing is just making you lose peers.

Yes, that is why I found it to be funny when the list actually blocks my own IP. I used to run through a VPN but somehow the VPN is no more. lol

Hi!
I found the IP filter works fine with qBittorrent 3.0.11. It's blocking my own IP for some reason though, but that's because I'm on a University network sometimes.
Why wouldn't I use an IP filter though?? It filters bad peers and nasty Anti P2P companies! Shouldn't everybody use one?

+1 to shiki.

This is my opinion about it but I don't know if it really helps to use one. I mean if you're scared to be caught by any organization you shouldn't be using P2P in the first place. Its not like you have suddenly 100% defence against it, also im not sure if those ip's actually are anti p2p organizations or just some random ''bad'' ones. If they want you they can still get you even if you use it so I don't see any need for it. Atleast I never used one.
