All my torrents are "Not working" now...

Post by Vampire337 »

I recently attempted to upgrade from QBitTorrent 3.0.8 to 3.1.0.  I hit the new checkbox in the options to start QBT with Windows, and that seems to cause my QBT to lock up and need to be manually restarted, so I unchecked this box (I will post a bug report once I verify this is reproducible).  So then I noticed all of my torrents are no longer downloading or seeding; the tracker message is "Not working".  I blamed QBT 3.1.0 and downgraded to 3.0.8; still not working.  I uninstalled the latest Windows Updates (which I had installed last night roughly around the time when things stopped working).  I have made a list of the updates and will post it if necessary, but uninstalling them (and rebooting) did not fix my problem.  Additionally, torrents on other trackers (every tracker that has not blocked QBT 3.1.0, which is all but BTN) are also displaying "Not working", so I don't think it's the tracker's problem.  I have confirmed with a friend who started using 3.1.0 (not upgrading like I did) that 3.1.0 works fine (he is seeding only 4 torrents in QBT; I have a total of 1674 right now).  I am running this on Windows Server 2008 R2.

So has anyone encountered anything like this?  Any thoughts on how I can further troubleshoot?  Is it possible I somehow wrecked my QBT by upgrading and downgrading is somehow not an option?

Okay. Don't know whether this would work, but here it is.

1. Uninstall qBittorrent.
2. Go to C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\ (it's a hidden folder).
3. Then, delete the qBittorrent folder. (By doing this, you'll loose your settings.)
4. Then, perform a clean install of qBittorrent, preferably by downloading a fresh copy.
Hope this helps.

Replace <your username> with your Windows account name. For example, if your name is Vampire, replace the directory as C:\Users\Vampire\AppData\Roaming\.

Is there any way to preserve the torrent configuration, like an export/import?  I have about 6TB of torrent data from multiple trackers across multiple folders on a couple hard drives, and I'd sure hate to have to re-add all of the torrents by hand.

Just copy these two folders and archive them

(Windows XP)
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\qBittorrent
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\qBittorrent

Adjust for Windows 8. Then manually run the uninstaller. It has 2 options to remove settings/saved data of qbt. Ie total clean. Then reinstall. When satisfied, copy the folders to their original path (after closing qbt)

Being on 2008 R2 (Win7 derivative); I backed these up:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\qBittorrent
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\qBittorrent

Uninstalled with all checkboxes selected, rebooted to try to be sure everything is clean, and reinstalled.  Unfortunately, I'm still seeing the "Not working" status on all the torrents.

Edit: corrected one of the file paths; it was all jacked up.

OK, you uninstalled, but it seems you forgot to delete hidden folders - these you backed up, as ZeoMal suggested.

Is this the correct interface?

Ironcross: I'm not sure I understand what you mean?  I backed the folders up as sledgehammer_999 suggested.  As I mentioned, I'm trying to avoid having to re-add 1600+ torrents in multiple folders (many of which are being accessed outside of the torrent client so I'd like to avoid moving them).  I guess I could try adding a couple torrents manually on a completely fresh (hidden folders deleted) install.  Will report back on that...

Sledgehammer_999: This does match the NIC that this machine uses for internet traffic, and port 2335 is one I chose to forward from my router to this machine.  (This machine has two NICs, one is internet and the other is directly plugged into a NAS.)  I actually set this from "Any interface" to the selected NIC (Advanced, Network Interface) during my troubleshooting, and could just as easily switch back if needed.  I didn't see a change.

Of the Windows Updates I had installed, one is not uninstallable, and I've found no information on uninstalling it.  Since I can't rule WU as my culprit, I'm building an additional VM to try all of this from, and I will make sure to get more diligent with snapshots since it appears one cannot count on MS to make all updates removable.

The final answer seems to be the Windows Updates I had installed.  Everything worked fine, then nothing worked, and the only thing I couldn't undo was uninstall that last update.  If anyone else runs into this issue, maybe this will help.  My fix was to trash the old OS, build a new VM and move the folders noted in my post above (the old VM was 2008 R2; the new is Windows 2012).  The update that will not uninstall is KB2884256, and I've confirmed (http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.s ... gment/2664) that this patch also applies to Windows 7 and others have noted it cannot be removed once it's installed.

Thanks to everyone who posted here trying to help.  Words fail to express my dissatisfaction that they release a patch that breaks things and cannot be removed.  But again, hopefully this helps someone else who runs into the same trouble.
