Torrents restarting after portable qbittorrent folder copy-paste to new hd

Post by jfp555 »

Hi all,

Really love using qbittorrent, amazing program.I use the portable version as I often move files around and I also like to seed as well.

I copied the entire portable qbittorrent (3.1.4) folder (including downloads) to a new HDD and it worked fine form there. It worked perfectly fine.

However, after I went back the original location of where qbittorrent (portable version) was and deleted files by running qbitorrent, I closed it and ran it from the new HDD (both old and new harddisks were connected at the same time, but only one instance of qbittorrent was running.

Now all those torrents that I deleted are showing up as 'undownloaded' and it begins to download them again. Even though there completed versions are in the same folder.

I really hope someone can help me fix this.

hi jfp555,

Maybe other users will help you but i'm not sure developpers will since the portable version of qBt is not official, it's basically unsupported.

Yes true, portable versions are not supported here cause they are not official.

Even though portable builds (being unofficial) are not officially supported, I would like to offer a suggestion.

Is the location (default or otherwise) for saving downloaded torrent files the same as your original location?
For example, if you originally had the torrents on your PC in C:\Users\jfp555\Downloads, then your qBittorrent version (being portable) might still have it's save location as C:\Users\jfp555\Downloads. Try changing that to the location in which you have copied your files (i.e. your portable HDD), and then force a recheck on all your torrents. It should work.

Additionally, if you have (or had) selected the option "Append .!qb extension to incomplete files" in qB, you might have to enable/disable to get it working.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I actually had a facepalm moment after reading your reply ZeoMal. Upon resuming the troublesome downloads, I opened the destination folder and indeed it was the old location. However, in the options it is set to the new location. I'm going to re-install the portable version to the new location to see if it fixes the issue.

I am also open to any other suggestions regarding any way to change settings to fix the new location as the download location.

I really like qbittorrent but would be open to suggestions of a torrent application that is portable supported. (I hope this kind of question is permitted on the forums)

Thanks again in advance!

However, in the options it is set to the new location.
Changing the locations in "Options" doesn't change them retrospectively for active jobs

The download path is hardcoded into the .fastresume file for the tasks which are located in -> C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\qBittorrent\BT_backup and named with the info_hash of the task.

The path is a string value stored in the qBt-previousSavePath key and you could edit the file with Ultima's BEncode Editor
Make a backup first though.

It seems that I'm screwed. The only qbitorrent folder I found is in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\qBittorrent and the folder is completely empty.

I dont think that I will be able to get anything more out of the unsupported qbittorrent portable app.

Here are some possible solutions that I hope you guys can help me with:

1. Any new torrent I add, gets downloaded to the new location/drive. I could simply remove the trouble causing files and instead find them again on sites and add them for download. When qbittorrent checks them, will it be able to identify the files as fully downloaded upon verification?

2. Could you guys suggest a good, supported portable torrent application? Or could an official portable release of qbittorrent be requested?

Thanks again!
