How about that "Hyper-V" feature, mentioned here?:

..and here:

Also, most antivirus software has become some nasty performance killers these days.

Hi, thanks for the tips

They didn't help however.
My system:
[email protected], z77 chipset, 680GTX, 16gig ram. NO other program has any issues whatsoever.
When I run qBittorrent, this program freezes for long periods of time, on average 5-20 seconds. Then when I actually checked the logs and discovered "buffer overflow", that tells me there is something the matter with the programming. Windows 8 seems to have a problem with this program only, all other torrent clients, media players, Kasperksy, Opera, firefox are still perfectly responsive during this freeze. I wish I could fix this, and I did not do a clean install of windows 8, but an upgrade, but I can't do a clean install if nobody knows what the problem is.
I do use registry cleaners [ccleaner, tuneUp utilities], maybe they messed something up? Since it's only qBittorrent, I'm fairly confident that it's got nothing to do with my windows.
Any ideas are appreciated of course

Indeed, some cleaners HAVE been known to be the cause of some weird problems.
However, in this case, such apps wouldn't really be my prime suspects..
I must admit though, that I'm not a big fan of CCleaner, because it gives you VERY little control over what's actually being deleted.
My personal favorite is Ace Utilities (shareware), which is extremely customizable:

Have you tried to completely disable ALL antivirus and firewall processes for a short while, just to see if they could be interfering with qBittorrent?

Yeah, I disabled Kaspersky IS 2014 and it didn't fix it, but even if it did, I would not use anohter suite, since I already paid for a year in advance. It actually says lots of Kaspersky users are using qBittorrent and it got full trust and only allow rules set for everything. It's almost a shame not more people are using windows 8 and have this problem, then it might be easier to find out how to fix it.

Since 3.0.9 gave less problems and since it used libtorrent 0.16.9 I compiled git master against 0.16.9(previous was using RC_0_16 from svn).
Here is a link to it->
http://builds.shiki.hu/temp/qbittorrent ... _setup.exe
Please try it and report if it behaves the same as 3.0.9 or as 3.0.11

Hey!
Thanks a lot for your effort!
It's better than v3.0.11, but still freezing occasional, like 3.0.9 basically. Whenever it freezes, it's both the GUI and the downloading, which basically stops then, because after the freeze it starts again really slowly.
Maybe libtorrent is the reason for the freezing? The good thing is that it always recovers, I just have to wait, so it's not a complete crash, just "not responding".

Any process monitor logs for this latest build?
Post them on

Ok, here are some logs, I can't submit more than 500kb though.
http://pastebin.com/rpJwGbxS
I just copied and pasted it, so it's not looking very clear. I noticed a lot of buffer overflow and fast IO disallowed. qBittorrent was unresponsive 2 or 3 times after starting, going into "not responding" for like 5-10 secs, now it's stable for a while. When I don't touch anything, just have it running in the background, it's downloading fine too.

Hmmm interesting.
Tomorrow, I am going to report this to libtorrent. Meanwhile, could you test the following build? It is git master with latest libtorrent 0.16.x from svn but built using mingw(gcc). Mingw builds way faster than msvc and it allows me to spew test builds more quickly. This should be should behave the same as
3.0.11, can you confirm?

Yes, right after starting and going into options, there was a long 15 sec freeze, and another one 1 min. later. Long times for "not responding"

And 1 torrent was downloading which was stopped during the freeze and continues when the freeze is over. Not had/noticed that before.
I always do a clean install by the way with complete uninstall of the previous version.

So to clarify, does this freeze happen only when trying to access the options window? Or is it general?

Actually, now when I come to think about it, I experienced a very similar problem with frozen applications on my computer several years ago.
The problem wasn't limited to just one application though, but several.
All of the affected applications had one thing in common: they communicated with the internet.
At the time I was using the integrated network adapter of my MSI motherboard..
To a great extent, I usually tend to avoid using integrated peripherals for such tasks, so my gut feeling told me that this was the cause of my problems, and I was proven right..
I tried a whole bunch of different drivers and configurations, but without any luck.
Finally, I disabled the integrated network adapter in BIOS, and installed an Intel PCIe gigabit network adapter instead..
Voilà; all problems magically disappeared!

The freeze happens in particular, but randomly, when browsing through the options or doing anything in qbittorrent, like changing setting or adding/removing torrents. When it's just downloading in the background, I don't notice it much of course. However I did notice some apparently random "not responding" in the task manager regarding qbittorrent ONLY. They were of rather short duration and the downloading resumed after the freeze was over.
@tomaso: Good idea, but my Bios is the latest stable version and my chipset and mainboard are very good: Z77x-UD5H by gigabyte. All other internet applications work perfectly. I could possible reinstall windows 8, or even windows 8.1, then test again, but that's a lot of trouble... reinstalling everything takes a day or more

Hey
Ok, I've done an upgrade to windows 8.1 in order to test qbittorrent with that new version of windows. However, my Kaspersky wouldn't work under windows 8.1 and I don't wanna be a month without it, so I reinstalled a clean windows 8.0.
After updating everything so far, I installed firefox, starcraft 2 and qBittorrent

It's been running for a few minutes now - STABLE! It's version 3.0.11 as well! I'll be doing some thorough testing for a day or two, then report back
I hope it'll run very nicely now, because if not, all my reinstalling will have been in vain.
Maybe the windows7 --> windows 8 upgrade process messed something up?
Thanks for your efforts and all the help so far. I had no reason to suppose that it was my windows in particular though since everything else was running perfectly.

Yes, that's your culprit right there, I'm sure!
You should NEVER change to a different version of Windows through one of those "upgrades".
