I saved the ini file to backup the settings. Installed freshly updated client, merged (overwrite) the backup ini file onto existing... and nothing, no change. So, what gives?

There are multiple folders.

%APPDATA%\qBittorrrent
%LOCALAPPDATA%\qBittorrrent

You need to save both, and replace both if you migrate/reinstall.

Thanks Pete, just for the record I figured it out by downloading and installing a variant distro of the program. Then everything clicked in just fine.
