Not connecting at all

So today I was messing around with RSS downloading (finally figured out why it wasn't working) and themes (was using dracula but some things, like checkboxes, weren't visible) and restarting qBt several times, and at some point (not sure when), everything stopped connecting. That is, each torrent says it's seeding or downloading, but seeds and peers are all 0. I tried resetting my VPN (qBt is bound to it) and then restarting qBt but that didn't help.
What could I possibly have done to cause this problem and how can I fix it?
ETA: A little while ago, I noticed the red circle on the bottom, saying I was offline. Just for good measure, I went through the steps to bind NordVPN to qBittorrent (even though it was already bound). I tested it on ipleak.net and it worked. Soon after this, I noticed that the red dot had switched to a flame, saying "No Direct Connections." I googled this problem and found that others had posted on Reddit about it in the past but there was no clear solution except to wait a while. Can anyone supply more information?
UPDATE: I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't change anything. What finally worked was deleting the folder under AppData. Interestingly, it didn't reset all settings, but the ones it did reset apparently included whatever it was that I inadvertently changed. So after restarting, it began transferring as normal.
