Constant I/O errors when seeding torrents

Post by kkurly3310 »

I have no problem successfully downloading and opening torrents, but while I'm seeding I am being spammed with I/O errors for the finished torrent. The notification for the error is also truncated and I can't even see the reason for the I/O error because this OS (Windows 10) sucks cock. I have no idea if this impacts the actual seeding or what but the near-constant notifications are incredibly annoying and the internet has been very unhelpful. I've turned off my firewall, reinstalled qBittorrent, have downloaded the same torrents multiple times, and nothing has worked. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas they would be very appreciated. Thanks

---forgot to mention, I have also run qBitt as an admin and downloaded torrents as an admin, no difference.

The only time I've seen I/O errors is when with private trackers when I reach my ratio max and I have it set to remove the torrent and its files. If the peer continues to try to get the file, I'll get the I/O error briefly.

Weird, don't believe I have it set to delete the torrent upon completing the ratio like you said. How did you fix your problem?

I didn't. It happens so rarely, I just ignore it now. Probably once a week or less, I'll see an I/O error. Qbittorrent is running constantly. I did check the timing of when it was happening, and it matched the removal of the torrent/file due to my ratio setting. Are you removing torrents/files only manually? If so, then it'd probably be some other issue causing the I/O errors, but I don't know what.

I found how to view the execution log and all the I/O errors have the same cause, "The system cannot find the path specified." I reset the location of the torrent files to where I installed them, but that didn't seem to work. I'm now rechecking the torrent to see if that works. @Gripweed I dont think the problem lies in my seeding ratio, some torrents I've been able to get an even ratio on and others start giving me the I/O error. I've got two torrents giving me the same error message right now, one I'm force rechecking and the other I'll leave alone to see if it's still able to seed properly.

My seeding ratio may not be the cause of your I/O error, but it comes down to the same issue. Qbittorrent can't find the file it needs to send out. In your case, it appears that it is a wrong path issue. There is a proper way within Qbittorrent to change the path of an existing seeding file but, unfortunately, I don't remember how to do it. Perhaps someone else here could help us out.

Well I think I figured out the issue, which is that I'm a bonehead. I think it's because I edit the name of the torrent on my computer once it's downloaded, I've experimented with two torrents one of which I renamed and the other I left as-is; the as-is one is still seeding but I've started getting I/O errors for the one I've changed. Sorry to waste your time Gripweed. On that note, is it possible to change the name of the torrent on my computer while still seeding? Not a big deal if I can't but some of them take a while to get to a 1/1 ratio, and I'd like to not have to wait for the seeding to finish before organizing my files (I have a particular naming system in place for my hard drive.)
