Proxies, Privacy, and qBittorrent

Post by ByteShare »

I want to start with I've used google and searched my question. I don't want to start a flame war...just find help.
I've been looking into using http://www.hidemyass.com/ for their proxy services (free ones). I don't want to use a VPN, nor do I want a paid service.
I want to know how to use the proxy properly. do I just go the the free list:

Is it as easy as...
Pick a service's IP and port from HideMyAss. Plug it into qB, while using the correct Type of course.
Is there more to it to make sure my IP is now "hidden" for my torrent actives?
I've also read that I should disable the setting: Options > Speed > Enable bandwidth management (uTP)
No?
I assume I should also enable "Enable anonymous mode", which from what I can tell also disables DHT exchange. Should I not enable Peer Exchange with PeX as well?

I know these are a lot of questions but I'm hoping to get a comprehensive understanding if all of my questions are addressed. If you only know how to answer one of my questions please feel free to just answer as little as you can or as much.

Thank you,

I'm pretty sure "hidemyass" or any free proxies are not to be used for torrent traffic, only web-based traffic.
As such, IF it worked at all it probably wouldn't work for long and they'd probably disable your account.

The bandwidth management uTP setting shouldn't have anything to do with proxy.

You don't setup accounts, or at least it doesn't appear that way. I suppose they could block your IP. Other fourms and people suggested HideMyAss for a free service. But I needed help making sure I was using it right.

What I read was that when the bandwidth management was on your IP will get leaked now and then to the tracker as the uTP is used.
