qBittorrent official forums

Hi! 
I was running windows 7 ultimate x64 just fine with qBittorent, no problems. Then I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro x64 and qBittorent keeps crashing/freezing a lot. I don't know why or where to find the logs, but it's really weird.
Reinstalling didn't fix it. I did have some older torrents, that were all paused, but only like 10 or so and it kept crashing when I tried to remove them or resume them.
I'd gladly give more info if you tell me what you need to know.

The crashing/freezing might not be a general stability issue, since somehow it's running ok now for like 10 mins, but some BUG! All my torrents were referring to a drive, which was missing, when I tried to resume them, check them, even after setting a new location, it would freeze for 20 secs at least!
Now after removing like 10 torrents, it's apparently fine now. Weird, isn't it? CAn I give you any logs?

Ok, I ran the Windows 8 compatibility troubleshooter, and it literally said qBittorrent is incompatible! http://gyazo.com/83cfafab7a0e05fa7e5701a0bfb0a559&nbsp; Why would it say that?!

I just happened to browse it that moment. Hmm, when having many torrents (>100) the UI might seem a little sluggish. Try setting the Tools->Options...->Transfer list refresh interval to something high, like 2000ms (or higher).

That's a bug from Cloudflare(the forum uses that service to mitigate attacks) and we are aware of that. But no biggie.

If those are seeds consider copying their respective .torrent files from the BT_backup folder(search your system), removing them from the list, and importing them. The import dialog has an option to skip data checking.

As for the others, pause them, point to new location, force recheck them and when it finishes unpause them. There shouldn't be a problem after that.

Unfortunately, qbt doesn't write any logs to disk.

EDIT: I haven't tested on any other OS than Windows XP sp2 32bit. And I don't have access to any other windows version. So I can't really support "quirks" of new Windows versions.

Nope, it's constantly freezing whenever I try to change any setting or do anything Maybe it's a Windows 8 issue and I didn't do a clean install, but upgraded. Is there any other program that qBittorrent relies on, which I might have to reinstall?
Also, I'm not sure the port forwarding is working, because the router has UPnP enabled, but the port in qBittorrent doesn't get opened automatically. Downloading is working though and the little thing in the bottom turn green too.

Are you sure that there isn't a torrent perform a hash check? Because if it does and it is on the same drive as qbittorrent the system may get laggy (alhtough new systems should be ok).

No qbt doesn't rely on any external program(apart from python for the search feature). Since it turns green that indicates that you have incoming connections. Check the log to see in the port mapping succeeded(View->Execution log). Note: If you have many torrents, the log gets pruned and you might not see the portmapping info.

Oh, god! I did a clean install of the alpha version, but with no success. I'm so sad right now It's actually unusable. Almost every actin I do causes a freeze for 10-20 seconds. When I have the task manager open, qbittorrent is shown as "not responding" every now and again too. Memory is at only 40MB.
This is so awful because I know it was working before with windows 7. It HAS to be something with windows 8. Could there be ANYTHING which has something to do with program stability in Windows 8, which might be different from windows 7?
I badly wanna use this client, it's the BEST at the moment I believe.
But I can't go back to windows 7 now I've run every update of everything. I'll give it one more try after rebooting and another clean install, then I have to switch back

It will spew A LOT of messages from all the apps. I can't remember how you should it set it up exactly but here is an approximation
You basically need to set up a filter that'll show events only from qbittorrent.
So a filter would be "Process name is qbittorrent.exe include"

Let it run, and after 2-3 freezes copy-paste the log. If you could point out the timestamps where the freeze happened that would be great.

Ok, after some testing I can say v3.0.10 is freezing just as bad as the latest version, with really long freezes as well, like 5-20 seconds.
Now, version 3.0.9 did have 1-2 freezes when changing a few options around, but it is MUCH better, the freezes don't last long. Also, it doesn't show "not responding" the the task manager without reason when qBittorrent is minimized.
While it does freeze a bit occasionally, I can kinda live with that.
I've kinda noticed that during the freeze, the process monitor doesn't have any activity somehow?! Does that make sense?

Just a shot in the dark of course, but I've got a hunch about this, especially if you're using a laptop:
