qbit hangs before I can use it

Post by checbenj »

I switched to qbit today and when I click a magnet link or try to open the program I get the messaged that it is not responding ... I end the program but it wont close. I checked task manager and it doesnt show it running in applications but in process it is running ... when I click end process i get action denied message
I have scanned computer with malware bytes and trend housecall and no threats where identified.  I am looking for troubleshooting help or a suggestion for an outright fix.  I am running windows 7 and I use chrome.  I also tried using explorer same thing happens :(
I installed qbit 3.1. 0

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling it?
Also, check whether you have some permissions problem (like not running in administrator mode etc.).

This my not be your case checbenj, but I had the same problem as you and after some fiddling with the setup files (.ini, if I removed them I could start) I realized the partition that was the target for the torrents was corrupt/broken.
Directing the files to another hardrive/partition solved it :P

Oh you should not need to touch them.
If you want to backup torrent progress and settings those files are in user/yourusername/AppData\Local\qBittorrent and user/yourusername/AppData\Roaming\qBittorrent
That is useful if you for instance need to reinstall Windows and want the torrent progress saved so you don't need to re add those.

What I meant by my comment was that in my case I had a bad disk drive without noticing it, qBittorent tried to access that drive and froze.
I wanted to keep the settings and progress. Deleting the directories above solved it for me.

I think those directories should be deleted during a successful uninstall of qBittorrent, but if they are not you could try deleting them yourself.
Or just wait for the dev to answer :P

You might want to do a clean install. For doing this, first, go to
(I believe you have Windows 7)
C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\
C:\Users]<your username>\AppData\Local
and save the qbittorrent folders somewhere else. These contain all your settings and torrent data.
Then manually run the uninstaller. It has 2 options to remove settings, and the saved data of qBittorrent. Check them and uninstall. Then reinstall. See whether the problem persists. If it doesn't copy the folders back to their original locations (if required). If you do not see the two options, then after copying the folders, delete them (when qB is closed). Then continue with uninstallation.

If the problem continues to persist, you would have to, as pointed out by therealbosselarsson, wait for a developer to answer.

My hard drive is partitioned for other users .... So I loaded onto a different drive from my drive using admin  .. it loaded and I was able to select save to my drive.  When I started a torrent i received a i/o failure  message and the download stalled ... I changed the target directory from my drive to the other drive ... still no go .... but when I logged back onto my drive qbittorrent worked so I am thinking loading unto the different drive reset whatever was causing qbit to hang in the first place.  If that makes any sense .. if not I would appreciate an explanation regarding ... long story but to summarize qbit now works for me :)
