Hell we get a lot of them nowadays.
I have installed a new anti-spam countermeasure called "SFS".

Their site can be found here:
http://www.stopforumspam.com/

I really like the idea and thanks for the person who wrote a phpBB plugin.
Guess this will help us handle those bastards.

Also, I have applied some static IP block (using htaccess) against the most well-known spammers.
If you are not one of them and want to access the site, please contact me and I'll unban you.

Basically just watch out for the russian mails, the strange "interests" and web links + the username.
It's easy once you get used to it.

My email had some serious spam problems. It didn't filter anything, so I set the neccessary X-spam value to 1. Then they fixed the problem, and now almost all the mails have landed into the spam folder WHICH for some unknown reason, my mail client won't open / see.

Anyway. I had ~200+ mails just from bot registers. How do these people have this much time? Or is this some kind of perversion? ...Beats the hell out of me. :)

I receive mails with subject "Activate user account":
Hello,

The account owned by "rahlobreach" has been deactivated or newly created,
you should check the details of this user (if required) and handle it
appropriately.

Use this link to view the user's profile:
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=746

Use this link to activate the account:
ucp.php?mode=activate&u=746&k=F71NJF
Sometimes these profiles are flagged, sometimes - not.

Just check the profiles.
If they have {
- Russian mail address
- Random mail name
- Interest, hobby (too generic)
- Strange webaddress
- Fishy username
}

INSTANT BAN / DEL.

(I'll do some cleaning sometime soon when I have the time, but it's a great work if one person does it only. Help me out with this.)
