Newcomer questions about settings, errors, recommendations etc.

Hi.
I'm pretty new to qbittorrent, i switched a few days ago from utorrent 2.2.1.
I've tried searching google & the forums but can't find much explaining the advanced settings.
Like.
Disk cache expiry interval: what does it do, i figured the cache expires after 60s, does that mean the entire cache, what are the negatives/positives of adjusting it higher/lower?

I also figured that the default settings would suit most people, but are there any recommended settings for 400mbit+ connections in use with regular 7200rpm HDD's ?
Raid0 ?

Edit: Also i seem to get I/O errors when seeding the same content to multiple trackers. Is that a bug or me doing something wrong ?

What is the error? (view->execution log)

It didn't save them, it crashed with i/o error, after restart there's no info in execution logs.
However, there was a small one, i think, where it didn't crash, but it just paused the torrent, no further info. "24/02/2014 23:50:13 - An I/O error occurred, 'Guess i'm supposed to blank this part' paused."
After restarting the client it started to recheck the torrents, not all, but mainly the one that was being seeded to multiple trackers.

I/O error can occur when cache gets corrupt for some reason. E.g. too big cache disk size and/or too long expiry setting. I use 2048 MB and 240 seconds and that works good for me. I have 12 GB System Ram. Perhaps when seeding to multiple trackers there's too many requests? Try decreasing maximum upload slots or one of the above. I have 48 global upload slots and 16 maximum torrent uploads.

Hope that helps.

P.S. I like the honesty having that nick.. : )

I do get that a lot :)

I have 8 gb ram, qbit is set to 2048 mb, and expiry interval i'm not sure how works, but it happened when it was set to 120 & 90.
I disabled global upload slots and set 50 upload slots per torrent. That seemed to be the recommended setting for 100mbit+ and as i have around 450mbit i thought i'd just copy the settings from utorrent.

global max connection: 1000
max per torrent: 125
max upload slots per torrent: 50

Edit: I just got an I/O error on a torrent that was already finished "not enough space" in taskmanager it says qbit is using around 500mb & the disk used has 181gb free.
qbit crashed, after restart it starts to recheck 6 torrents out of the 19 i have in the list. Happened with both 3.1.8 & 3.2.0

Edit: btw, could you explain how "expiry interval" works ?

Edit: Something requested to stop something in an unusual way, the it crashed, after restart if wants to recheck the same 6 random torrents even tho they are done.

Your error seems eerily familiar with another report from a user in the forum a while back, which was supposedly fixed by libtorrent.

Next time please copy-paste the log. At least the part about i/o error and the reason. When an i/o error occurs there are 2 lines output in the log. One saying "An i/o error occured blah blah" and one "Reason: blah blah". And since the log shows the newest item first they appear in reverse order.

Which log are you referring to, windows or qbittorrent logs?
I am asking because the error i had with qbit, happens like this. Popup notification from taskbar saying I/O bla bla not enough space and then the program has already crashed, i can only force close the exe. After restart there's no mention of the error. But windows did notice it and logged it.
But they're not very describing, it'll just say there was a problem with qbittorrent.exe and that the module qbittorrent.exe was the cause, only in 1 instance so far was the cause something else, ntdll.dll.
Besides that some of the I/O errors gets followed by a ms runtime error c++ something something and then crashes.

Wow, just had a crash that crashed the whole machine, after reboot the program completely reset itself, started to redownload all torrents onto c: and the settings interface changed from a horizontal view to a vertical view.
What happened to the config, and how do i restore it ?

And how to i stop qbit from rechecking torrents every time it start?

Edit: i've narrowed I/O error down to that it happens every time a torrent finishes.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Close qBT down cleanly before powering down the machine.

It happens anyway.

Check qbt's log AFTER the popup but BEFORE you close qbt. The full error is in there. If you close qbt the log is lost. It isn't saved to disk anyway.

Are you waiting until the qbittorrent.exe process has gone from the process list in task manager?

Yes, i can close the app, and start it 5 min later. Can you even start the app before it's been shut down?
If you tried that wouldn't it say the exe is still running or something like that?

There are two seperate components to a BitTorrent client, the GUI, which is simply a configuration system and an simple way to load jobs for the real worker component which is the download/upload daemon, closing the GUI with File -> Exit doesn't shut down the daemon immediately, it simply tells it to "complete current tasks then quit" so it has to write completed blocks to disc, (or abandon them as 'wasted'), save state of all the active jobs and update all the resume data. If you are running more than ten or twelve jobs that are actively downloading, the closedown can take several minutes. If your machine powers down before that process is complete the data is flagged as 'dirty' and needs to be rechecked to verify it's integrity.

I understand, but it's not just the downloading torrents that's being rechecked, it's multiple already completed torrents.
If i shut down the program and tries to start it too soon, will it not say there's a conflict if it's not done shutting down?

And i've already installed 3.1.9, we'll see what happens.
