Bind to interface - VPN (Ubuntu)

Hi,
I use qb 3.1.8 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTs (32bit)
I set up VPN-Connection and with "ifconfig" I see the new interface "ppp0".
Then I put "ppp0" in OPTIONS > ADVANCED > NETWORK INTERFACE (REQUIRES RESTART) and restart.
Now all my bittorrent traffic should route over the vpn, right?

But: If I kill the vpn, the torrent still download / upload.

Is this a bug or do I missunderstand the option "Network interface"?

Thx

Are you sure that ppp0 is the VPN interface? Usually openvpn names its interfaces as tun0.

Thank you for your answer. I have quite limited knowledge of linux I must admit.
when I callup "ifconfig" it lists the interfaces "eth0", "lo" and "wlan0" - then I start the vpn and afterwards ifconfig still lists those three interfaces plus one that is called "ppp0"
so I thought "ppp0" must be the vpn.

I use the Ubuntu own vpn-function at the top-menu-bar

eth0 is your network card (Ethernet device 0)

l0 is the "loop back device" == 'localhost'

ppp0 is "Point to Point Protocol device 0 which is most likely to be a modem (possibly built in if the machine is a laptop)

wlan0 is Wireless networking device 0

If you connect using a mobile (cell) phone via USB (known as 'tethering') that may well be identified ppp0 and wlan0.

When I set up the VPN it is called "PPTP Point-to-point tunnel protocol".

And I don't think that my laptop has a built in modem which appears by activating a vpn ;)

Please use [ quote ]  delimiters for quoted text, not [ code ] it does the same formatting but when the BBcode parser encounter  [ code ]  tags it tries to use syntax colouring and words that do not appear to be commands are coloured as comments which are an almost invisible light grey.

Meanwhile back at the plot; first thing to do is to update to the latest version (3.1.10) see if that improves things.

Use this ppa to update qbittorrent AND libtorrent to their latest versions: https://launchpad.net/~surfernsk/+archi ... t-software
Does the problem still appear?

thanks for the answer. I updated to 3.1.10.
Now, after I kill the ppp0 VPN interface, the download transferate slowly drops until it hits 0 B/s after like 30 Secounds. I guess that means it does what I intend it to do: only use ppp0 for the bittorrent download & upload.

I noticed that the "peers" column stays active though (changing from "7" to "8" and back in my case) - does this mean I still broadcast my "real" IP?

The only way to be sure is to run wireshark and observe if any traffic goes through your other interfaces....
(I cannot give specific instructions)
