If I don't use this option, where does qBittorrent store incomplete downloads? RAM? Does it make a difference to frequency of disk writes to the target download location?

Also, if I untick the option, will I still be able to see and use completed files from a batch torrent before the entire torrent completes?

In the default downloads location for whatever operating system you happen to be running.
