Automatically starting qBittorrent - *not headless*

Please pardon my ignorance, as I'm not very experienced with Linux.
I'm trying to use a Pi as a torrent and Plex server and have run into a snag. I need qBittorrent to start automatically, but I don't want to load it headless, as I will occasionally need to load up X and access via VNC so that I can manage my RSS feeds. If it wasn't for this, I'd set it up headless and all would be well. In my limited knowledge, it would seem if I make a simple startup script to launch the application I'll get a 'cannot connect to X server' error. How do I ensure this runs after X has started?
Thanks in advance.
