"I/O error" has rendered qBitTorrent unusable on Mac

Post by stokestack »

Hi all.

I did file a bug on this, but wondered if others have noted that qBitTorrent is essentially unusable now because torrents will "pause" after a minute because of some unexplained "I/O error."

I'm on Mac OS 10.12.1 and qBitTorrent 3.2.5.

I did see forum comments about Avast, but I disabled it and this had no effect. Currently qBitTorrent is useless on my system.

Is your destination folder writeable?
OS X is more and more restrictive by each version...

It's possible they made "sideloaded apps" even more restricted.

Thanks for your reply.

I thought I had updated this thread.  The problem was that I was out of disk space!

So... why doesn't the program simply say that?  "I/O error" is uninformative and ridiculous in this context.

Is there a reason you havent updated? That version is quite old ;o

As for why it doesnt say "out of disc space" qbittorent is pretty dumb in regards to disc/file management features.

An I/O error just means it failed to read or write a file.
It covers the following among others.
-File is in use
-Drive is out of space
-Drive was disconnected
-Application doesnt have permission to write to this folder.

Thanks for the reply.

I have since updated. I hadn't at the time, because the app never indicated that an update was available.

I've used BT clients in the past that properly warned of inadequate disk space. Also, if I remember correctly, they tend to pre-allocate space for the reported size of the file that's being downloaded; this seems like a logical time to check for available space or report the lack thereof.
