Download directories

Hi All,

This is my first message here! :) First of all, I would like to express my gratitude the developers because they made a very good tool! It's know everything what is needed for me!

Unfortunately I have a problem with it and I would like to know have anybody else experienced like this?

A few months ago I started to use qbittorrent (v 2.7.x or 2.6.x, I don't remember) and I was absolutely satisfied. I set up the download directory (Save file to location, for example: ~/DOWNLOAD) and I set up the "Automatically add torrents from" directories (for example: ~/#MUSIC, ~#MOVIES, etc). The result of this setup was that if I put a torrent file for example into ~/#MUSIC directory than the files was downloaded to ~/#MUSIC directory. I like this behavior very much because I don't need copy the files from one place to another. It's easy to organize my stuffs. Basically where I put my torrent file, the files will be downloaded there.

A few weeks later there was a version change and as a consequence at the first start every not fully downloaded file was put into the ~/DOWNLOAD (which equals to "Save file to location" parameter) without any confirmation. It was annoying and free space consuming act but I've already accept that at the open source project sometime strange (or shit) thing happens. So, I set up every torrent. You know left click on the torrent in the main screen and "Set location". It was a terrible job because I have more than 500 torrents. But, I was surprised because qBittorrent copied everything in the good way. There was not any trash file left behind.

A few days later I saw that I run out free space. I felt that it is not possible because I not download anything so fast. I started to examine my torrents and as a surprise I see that everything went back to the ~/DOWNLOAD/ directory without any warning or confirmation!

I tried to reproduce something lie this.
  1. Set up a new location a particular torrent.
  2. Restart the qBittorrent.
  3. Check the setups
Everything working fine.

That time I already put a few torrent files into my stuffs and the files processed without any error and the downloaded files are placed into that directory where my torrent files were placed. So, the working of the qBittorrent is quiet normal.

A few days ago there was an power-cut and I wasn't able to stop the machine before the cut. I assume that it could be root cause of qBittorrent went crazy.

What do you think? The power-cut could be the root cause or I found something strange bug?

Thanks for any suggestion and help in advance!

Here is another question: can somebody tell me where the particular torrent files' properties are stored in the user's  home filesystem? I think that I'm going to write a script which will handle this "set up new location" problem. Thanks in advance!

Very interesting questions, but we must wait some of the Linux users to see your topic. I'm not familiar with the Linux systems :)

Im a linux user to and most likely your downloads are going to your home folder. If not there run a search for qBT_dir and you should find them then you can change where you want your directorie.

Use the 'locate' linux "command" to find the torrent files. (An addition to LONNIE's answer.)
