The mess left when remote drives aren't available

I've got some torrents downloading to a local directory then moving the files to a network directory when finished. While seeding, if the network directory is not available for any reason all hell breaks loose. I'm not sure of the exact order, but:
It would be nice if qBT wouldn't automatically re-download torrents which have already completed or there was some other way to prevent this other than not saving to a network drive.
All machines referenced are Win8 or 10.
- torrent starts downloading again to local drive, even of there are no longer seeders.
- Finished files are deleted from network drive once it's available again.
- Angry family wonders why content has disappeared.
