qBittorrent character limit issue?

So, I've been using qBittorrent over the past 6 months and I've noticed that it doesn't seem to play nice with .torrents that have several long character count folders/files/.NFOs. The client will say 100%, but many of these files are dumped into my pre-defined "qBittorrent Incomplete" folder. I'm told that: "qBittorrent uses file APIs that are restricted to 256 characters."

So, could this explain why these downloads with 5+ folders, 5+ .NFO files and 5+ other files (All with long file names) aren't downloading properly? Some end up in my "Complete" folder, while others end up in my "Incomplete" folder.

I'm told that when I click the magnet link I should alter (reduce the file name/character count) to ensure a proper download.

Does this sound accurate? However, I'd prefer to keep the file names intact for various reasons.

Windows 10 has 256 character limit. (not only file name length, but full directory+file name length )
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/window ... limitation

When downloading completes, qbittorent moves files from incomplete folder to other folder.
the files which has longer than limit can't be moved, and the error happens.

To avoid the error, reduce the full directory+file name length shorter than the 256 length limit in 'Contents' toolbox

Hi, thanks for the response.

Windows 10 has a character limit, but from what other people have said, even when they've enabled larger file paths via the Windows Registry, it doesn't address this issue. If this is true, it would indicate that there's also a torrent client character limitation.

https://www.howtogeek.com/266621/how-to ... haracters/

I just checked a specific file & path name and it didn't exceed more than 256 characters. But maybe I'm miscalculating it. Do spaces count as characters?

When you say: "To avoid the error, reduce the full directory+file name length shorter than the 256 length limit in 'Contents' toolbox"

Can I just reduce the names of the files or do I also have to reduce the directory? The directory really isn't that long.

-Hard Drive contains 8 characters (F:) qBittorrent, that's it.

As far as the "Contents" toolbox, you're referring to qBittorrent > Select "Content" tab at the bottom of the client and edit the file names there? They'll still be able to seed after that? Will I have to download additional data?

spaces count as characters.

Yes. you could rename file name to reduce file name length in content toolbox. In my case, there is no problem in seeding files.

and.. In my experience, another solutions is NOT using incomplete directory, because error occurs when moving files.
