Built-in search - privacy

I just discovered the built in search facility of qBittorrent - brilliant!
One question - are searches private / encrypted? I ask as they seem to bypass the Options/Advanced/Network Interface setting, which I have set up to use my WireGuard tunnel to my VPN provider (Private internet Access). If I disconnect the VPN connection using the PIA Windows software then qBittorrent downloads stop (as expected) but the search facility still works.
