qBittorrent ignoring max global connection limit?

Been working on setting up my network for optimal long term torrenting when I chose to use qBittorrent/web-gui & linux as my client. I'm on Ubuntu Server 12.04.1 x64, latest qBittorrent compiled. I have my max global connection limit set to 600 - whenever I start a torrent I see it easily shoot up to 1.5 ~ 2k connections via my routers control panel (dd-wrt) - slow down is definitely noticed even with max download/upload speed isn't reached. When i start the same torrent with uTorrent on my windows machine it seems to respect my max global connection limit...how can I go about hunting this problem down? I really want to use qB!

Same problem.
I have a PC with Lubuntu 12.10 - 32bit. Max connection is set to 150.
The problem is present in version 3.0.5 from ubuntu repository, and in version 3.0.8 from our ppa.
If I start qbittorrent, the simultaneous connection increase of 1000 and router hang up.

Sorry for my bad english ;)

Thanks
