Qbittorrent preventing PC from going to sleep

Post by MrCanadian »

Good afternoon,

When running this program, my PC immediately wakes up after being told to go to sleep. When I close down the program, my PC goes to sleep normally.

I've looked through the options and neither of the "inhibit sleep" options are ticked. Is there any recommendation to allow my PC to go to sleep while this program is running so that it auto-resumes downloading etc when I wake my PC up?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

MrC.

Same poblem here. As If the "inhibit system sleep" options were ticked in the settings menu. (Tryed turning them on and of nothing changes.)
It probably wakes the PC through wakeOnLan.

I had forgotten I posted this thread until I received a notification today.

Nevertheless, this is what I did to solve the problem:

1. Go to device manager
2. Find the network adapter (in my case it was the RealTek network adapter)
3. Disallow it permission to wake the computer from sleep

Now qBittorent works perfectly, going to sleep with the rest of the computer, then automatically resuming functionality upon waking.

Hope this helps!

Peace.

The problem is, that's not a real solution. Disallowing your network card to wake the pc disables WakeOnLan functionality (Btw you probably can just disable that feature in your BIOS). That will prevent other normally working apps from waking the PC. This needs a proper fix.

I had the same problem (computer waking up 5 seconds after I put it on hibernate). The options in power management didn't do anything, I tried the options on or off, no effect, I also tried with stopped or live torrents, with or without RSS & auto download, computer still waking up.

I am also a wake on lan user and I need it to work.

Then I managed to solve the problem by going into the windows config panel, then find the network adapter settings, and then in power management I ticked "allow this device to wake the computer" but also "only allow a magic packet to wake the computer".

see this image from google search https://dl.razerzone.com/src/3885-5-EN-v1.png

This solved the problem to me, which kind of makes sense: i don't know exactly how qbitorrent is managing to wake up the pc, but clearly it is something with the network card because when you disable totally the ability for the network card to wake up the pc (in bios), qbitorrent doesn't manage to wake the computer up. But still, it's not like there is somebody sending a magic packet on behalf of qbitorrent, so my understanding is that there is some kind of timer "within" the network card that can wake up the computer too.
So with this option ticked "only allow a magic packet to wake up the computer", I guess that disable the timer and the computer doesn't wake up by himself. Also, I can still use wake on lan functionality and it works perfectly.

For the context this is an integrated network card in a MSI motherboard, on windows 11.
