unwanted folder

Post by flitox »

hello,
qbt torrent creates a folder named unwanted where it stores the files you do not want to download but need to download some data from.

is there a way to avoid that folder to be created when downloading torrents partially??

thanks

thanks for the link, but it's not helping me.
my problem is not the folder in itself, it is files that i do not want to download get written fully (or pre-allocate) while i only need a few Ko/Mo off them.

for example, let's say i'm downloading one file of 4 gb right in the middle of a very big torrent. i need to get data of both the previous and next file which are also 4gb.
because of that, i'll have 8gb used because these 2 files will be written fully to the HDD while i could only just need 16Mo off them.

(one thing i also notice is that once the torrent is finished downloading what i've selected, that folder is deleted which is good unless i want to continue later to get more off that torrent as some data i've already downloaded will now be missing)

What is the piece size of the torrent?
Do you use preallocation?
Do you use latest qbt version? (libtorrent did some fixes on this aspect in latest versions)

No, you will actually only have the cross file pieces that are required to complete the adjacent data segments.

nope i haven't preallocation checked and i'm using latest version (3.1.9.2)

at the moment i have only one partial torrent downloading, pieces size is 8Mo and so far 1 unwanted files has been written to hdd: size 90.8Mo; size written to disc 90.8

would preallocate avoid this???

Preallocate would write an almost empty file the full size of the unwanted file, most of the file would just be 0's (or whatever default data was present in the allocated drivespace).

Libtorrent is responsible for file handling. Could you open a bug at their tracker? Don't forget to state your OS and libtorrent version(which is 0.16.16 for v3.1.9.2). Then link back here too.

since i'm not a native english speaker and don't really know how it would explain it easily, could you post it yourself??
i'm on win 7 32bit by the way.

another thing i've notice, on another partial download, i have a folder containing preview .jpgs. of course the whole folder have been unselected and after downloading what i wanted, i see that this folder is existing and that one jpg that has been downloaded partially as it missing the bottom end is present in that folder.

That's because of cross-file pieces, the "missing bit" is where the data wasn't actually required for an adjacent file that WAS downloaded.

i know that ciaobaby, the problem is still having that folder within the main folder despite the fact i never ask to download a single file from it. not only it should never have been created (if i remember correctly, it had an unwanted folder inside it) as it should have been included in the unwanted folder, but it should have been removed once completed

Nope. It can ONLY be removed when you remove the job from your client completely

If you continue to seed the payload your client has, whether it is "complete" or not, it WILL need those "unwanted" pieces as well as the "wanted" pieces.

all my partially downloaded torrents that are completed do not have the unwanted folder anymore....

actually, my last sentence wasn't right, i found a few partially downloaded torrents that still had an unwanted folder, unfortunatly those have been removed from qbt and that folder was still present!!!
