Seeding files already downloaded

Post by qbof »

I've just moved from uTorrent to qBittorrent and I'm trying to get the hang of the new layout. I've got the grasp of most of it apart from seeding a file that I've already downloaded. With uTorrent I would usually download the torrent file again, set the file download location to where I have the file stored then force a recheck. uTorrent would check the file, realise I've got the file already and seed. It's not doing this with qBittorrent. What am I doing wrong? Would greatly appreciate a step-by-step guide if possible.

Hi and welcome,

Are you sure the right path is selected?

The same method should/must work for qBittorrent too. Add the completed torrent -> save to the right path where the completed data is stored and choose recheck. It will start to recheck till 100% and then you can start to seed.

or you can put the payload in the "incomplete" location and it will just find the files and run a hashsum check.

This isn't happening, and yes I'm selecting the right path. Every time I do the recheck, it quickly tells me it has stalled and nothing happens. Weird. I download the torrent, set the location path to the exact same folder name the files are stored at and forced a recheck. Nothing. Any ideas?

I've tried the recheck with a file I already downloaded using qBittorrent, and the recheck works fine. However, when I try something else (downloaded using uTorrent for instance) stored on another external hard drive, it doesn't work. Can qBittorrent only work with one download folder?

Turn off the "save incomplete torrents" option and see if that helps.  It's not the same as uTorrent saving a new torrent to a download folder and then moving to an incomplete folder.

Going to 'stalled' does not mean the recheck 'failed', it means that there are no peers requesting pieces and/or for that job. It does take time for the newly loaded job to be "announced"

If it has not checked that the payload is complete the "Done" column will be at less than 100%

Does it go from "stalled" to "seeding" after a few minutes have passed?
