Hi all, I'm not really new to qBittorrent or torrenting in general, but I'm just wondering what are the 'safest' (I suppose, most anonymous) settings you can have set in qBittorrent?
I don't currently have a VPN, although I'll be getting one soon. In the mean time, I'm just wondering how to keep myself anonymous.
Thanks.
Safest settings?

Re: Safest settings?
You basically can't be totally anonymous.
The only options that I can think of without having a proxy or a vpn are:
1. Force the use of encrypted connections in the settings
2. Install a program that blocks known bad ip ranges. (search for programs such as "peerblock" or "peerguardian").

I knew that. Hmmm. So, I suppose that leads me to ask this: What about things like PeX and Local Peer Discovery? Should I disable those? Is DHT 'safe'?
Re: Safest settings?
Even with PeX, LPD, and DHT all disabled, BitTorrent still advertises the torrents it's sharing/downloading to trackers.
A proxy or VPN "moves the goalposts" only by reporting the proxy's or VPN's ip to the tracker, but if that is an account that you registered in your name and paid for...then chances are there's an even better paper trail back to you in the event someone gets a court order to reveal your identity.
Sometimes a proxy or VPN goes down and some BitTorrent clients retry connections directly, throwing away even the hint of being anonymous.
A BitTorrent client might incorrectly self-report its local LAN or internet ip through PeX, LPD, DHT, or to the tracker in spite of using a proxy or VPN.
If someone has both IPv4 and IPv6 connections to the internet at the same time and then either is discovered by other peers/seeds, there is no hiding...
6to4, Teredo, or other IPv6 access means can also be another route to connect directly to your computer.
BitTorrent is not made to be anonymous, and security-by-obscurity doesn't really work. Other peers and seeds on the same torrents must know your computer's internet ip (or proxy/VPN ip to connect to your computer) or you won't be downloading/uploading anything.
