tracker exchange?

Post by awaiken »

does qBittorrent support tracker exchange? In other words this is a feature that pulls all the trackers from all the peers you are downloading from so that you have the most possible trackers in your torrent download. If it supports it, how do I enable this feature? I have been looking everywhere and googling but can't find it, or is it done automatically?

Yes thats possible, Options -> Advanced -> Scroll down and enable ''Exchange trackers with other peers''.

If you use just a single private tracker, you've to think twice before enabling this option: your passkey may leak easily. Yesterday I was faced with such situation.

Torrent privacy is not related to tracker privacy. The authors of libtorrent refuse to understand this fact:

despite having clean explanations like that:

After thinking.. Maybe this feature can be removed after all. I get a whole list of bad trackers which don't work at all, sometimes seeing few private ones also with passkey. I mean, you got peer exchange and such. Bigger list of trackers doesn't equal more peers.

Tracker Exchange was a poorly thought-out feature in the first place.

If you're on a private tracker that does ratio-tracking and other monitoring, you could get banned if tracker exchange started pulling in peers/seeds from other trackers.
If you're on a private flagged torrent, then it probably won't help.
If you only have 1 seed or peer, it probably won't help.
If it would help, it is overkill in combination with DHT, PEX, and LSD/LPD.

If you've already got >30 connected peers+seeds, you don't need it and it can do multiple announces on the same tracker due to tracker name duplicates like this:
udp://tracker.publicbt.com:80/announce.php
udp://tracker.publicbt.com:80/announce
udp://tracker.publicbt.com:80/
udp://tracker.publicbt.com:80
udp://tracker.publicbt.com/announce.php
udp://tracker.publicbt.com/announce
udp://tracker.publicbt.com/
udp://tracker.publicbt.com
http://tracker.publicbt.com:80/announce.php
http://tracker.publicbt.com:80/announce
http://tracker.publicbt.com:80/
http://tracker.publicbt.com:80
http://tracker.publicbt.com/announce.php
http://tracker.publicbt.com/announce
http://tracker.publicbt.com/
http://tracker.publicbt.com
(This is an example only, I don't claim this tracker is even online anymore or runs http or utp...)

I will further investigate this and post screenshots if needed. Im not really bringing up the client to see what it does, just let it work in the background mainly but saw some wrong/duplicate/passkey trackers a few times in the past. I will make a screenshot and catch it right away. Stay tuned.

If you see something you can post too.
