So,
I am having trouble creating the program's association with Magnet Links. In the Option panel it simply will not stay checked. I assume is because the program quietly errors when writing the reg file.
I have attempted my own crude fix, to no effect, creating my own file to add. The text I used is included in the bottom of this message. But that threw a "Error accessing the registry".
Anyone have any wisdom, advice or condolences?
Thanks for your time.

Magnet Link bug, likely local to my system
Re: Magnet Link bug, likely local to my system
Which version of windows?
When you installed it should have created this for you, might also have been a problem with UAC? Did it ask you for password or admin confirmation when it installed (also depends on which windows version)?
Let's see if I can find what my registry says, because magnet links work for me since install, no manual configuration needed.
Also, adjust file location as necessary. It may be "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\qBittorrent\\qbittorrent.exe\" for me it's D: though.
And, as always, inspect any .reg file you downloaded before applying directly to your registry.

Re: Magnet Link bug, likely local to my system
Sorry for the long time in reply. I need to check my notification settings.
I am using windows 7 and I installed qbittorrent through my admin account.
I have even tried granting admin rights to the qbittorrent exe but to no effect.

Did you try the registry patch I uploaded? Look at the registry patch I uploaded as example (I think it might only include magnet settings from the registry) but I think your .reg might be formatted wrong.
I too use windows 7 (64bit). Like I said when I used the installer it set this up automatically for me. Or, when you first run it it should popup and ask you if you want to set it as default.
Try loading qbittorrent as admin, once, not setting admin rights to qbittorrent. Adjust the torrent and magnet settings in options then close qbittorrent and run it under your usual account, or as you normally would. If it did what it should have it should now be set as default, system-wide.

Re: Magnet Link bug, likely local to my system
No log with the reg file. I definitely need to do the repair from my admin account. I'll post when I've tried or if I sort it out, might be a while again. :p

Hey man i just want to thank you a ton for your upload. I haven't been able to use magnet links with qbittorrent and I looked everywhere for a solution or a proper registry file and couldn't find it. Your file that you uploaded worked perfectly after i added "(x86)" to the .exe location.
