Having problems with my qB queue/seeding & ratio--please help me

Post by jimmo »

Hello:

I am being accused by a torrents tracker of not seeding back , even though, to my knowledge, I am. My qBittorrents queue says the two torrents I downloaded are seeding, although my ratio is very low. Is it possible I may not have set one of my qBittorents settings correctly?

May someone at qBittorents take a look at my queue and see if it is set up correctly, functioning normally?

I had always used BitTorrent client before, with no great issues. But BT was not on this tracker's list of "approved" torrents clients. I was able to download with qBittorrents no problem. But there is something wrong about the seeding.  These "closed source" trackers are very particular about seeding back within a certain period of time, evidently.

I don't ordinarily leave my laptop tunred on 24/7, and always turn it off when I am away from my home for an extended period of time. Is there someway I may continue torrenting operations even with my computer turned off?

I am not what one would call a computer whiz. Please, any help with this problem, from anyone out there, would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to be penalized for what these trackers call "hitting & running," for it is certainly my intention to seed back at least what video files I take, and usually more so . It is only that I don't wish to leave my laptop on 24/7, and sometimes turn off all extra programs (including anti-viral) when I am doing something that requires a high level of performance, such as DVD burning.

I did notice thee is a yellow icon at the bottom of my qB queue, which, when I swipe over it reads "Connection status: No direct connections. This may indicate network configuration problems."

To my knowledge, I am not on a network, am just an individual using a laptop frtom my home. I don't wish to change any firewall that may be set up on my computer for security reasons. But if there's something I need to change to allow these seeds to report to the tracker that I am seeding back what I downloaded, that is what I wish to do.

Thank you,
Jim M.

Maybe there are no people to download these torrents? You make ratio when the people download from you.

No way. The files that you seeding are on your computer. Seeding means you allow others to download these files from you. With turned off computer this is impossible. If your computer is on, you can do remote managing of your torrents using the Web UI.

I was just asked to install the new version of qBittorrent, which my computer's anti-viral software warned me might be harmful to do. But I proceeded anyway. Now the new version, although installed, is not reflected in the qB queue, is still running on the old version, 2.9.3.

What do I do to have the queue updated?

Thank you,
Jim

If you're sure you have installed the both versions and if your torrents are in 2.9.3 - close the program. Then uninstall the new version 2.9.5. Download this build:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/qbittor ... e/download
Start the installation and it should update your old QB 2.9.3.
Or in your old QB 2.9.3 go to Tools - Options - Advanced and mark the option Check for software updates. Confirm with OK and close the program. Then start it again and it should ask you for an update available. Confirm update and voila.

I checked those settings you sent me, and all those boxes were checked.

I am just wondering why the person who uplaoded the torrents to my tracker is telling me I am not seeding, when my qB queue says the torrents are seeding.

If it will be of any help to you, the "Up Speed" in my queue says "O B/s." There is nothing moving to indicate I am seeeding back. I know what you mean that other users must download to increase my ratio. But shouldn't these two downloaded files still be seeding back? I am wondering if some connection is blocked, why that yellow icon in the bottom of the qB queue says there is no connection.

Could it be that since I have had my computer turned off or the torrents clients paused for long periods, that the seeds no longer work?

Thank you,
Jim

The yellow icon indicates that other people can not connect to you. This icon must be green when everything is OK. Restart your modem/router - this helps sometimes.

If the seeds are working, will I lose them by closing qB to install the new version?

I tried your second suggested method, and that box which reads "Check for software updates" was already checked. I unchecked and re-checked it, then hit "Apply" and "OK." But when I tried to close the qB queue, I received a message implying I would lose the two torrents running. These seeds are already questionable (as I woite already, my tracker reports I am not seeding them). Now I don't know what to do.

Thank you,
Jim

I don't know how to restart my modem/router, or where it would be located? I am using a laptop. Would this result in my loss of an internet connection, so I would have to contact Verizon to reconnect?

Thank you,
Jim

If you talk about this:

Click "Yes", don't worry.
If the update with the new version is done correctly, your torrent list should be intact in the new version.

Hey "Ironcross":

Alright, one problem solved, anyway. I got the new version of qB installed. Thank you.

As to the problem of my seedings not being reported back to my tracker, I wrote you another private mesage, and have left messages with the moderator at my tracker site.

If you are in communication with whomever wrote this qB program, perhaps you could explain my problem of the seedings not being reported to my tracker.

But all the settings you advised me to check were already checked, and still the queue is showing "0 B/s" in the "Up Speed" column of my qB queue. I am just wondering if some other setting(s) may have been overlooked, or if I mistakenly set something wrong when I first installed qB?

Also, would having two bit torrents programs installed on one's computer cause one or both to not function properly?

Thank you,
Jim

@jimmo, please don't use big font size in the whole message. Thanks.
The zero upload speed means two things - there is no one to download your files or you have connection problem (if the icon still yellow). In the first case there is nothing you can do. In the second case i have no idea what to tell you, since your settings are OK. What firewall you use? Are QB allowed to connect in the both ways (inbound and outbound) in your firewall settings? And how you connect to the internet?
There is no problem if you have installed two or more torrent clients, but you must use only one at a time.

Sorry to jump in this, but I have more suggestions/solutions.

This probably should have been the first step, but make sure the private tracker you speak of allows qB and specific version... it should be since you say you are able to download.
Generally speaking, you need to allow the torrent programs ports in your firewall/router. The upnp method should have allowed this, for example a router, but other times upnp just fails and you have to manually enter it in the firewall/router settings.
Also (could be ISP related) a lot of private trackers encourage users to pick a random port and not stick to the default 6881. And ISP's have been known to block this port or severely limit it. A lot of recommendations say anything between 49152–65535 just so that it has less chance of conflicting with something else wanting to use a specific port.
