Add torrents to Qbittorrent from outside of network without port forwarding?

Post by sindyr »

Hi, new used of Qbittorrent here. I used to use uTorrent, but I haven't been liking the direction they are going in.

They did have a feature, an android app that I put on my phone that let me monitor it from anywhere, and even add magnet torrents from my Android Chrome browser, even though I was out in the world and not on my home network - even though I have NOT set up anything special on my home router.

I would rather not setup port forwarding or anything else on my router - is there an app or other way to add magnet torrent to my Qbittorrent at home when I am out in the world WITHOUT messing about with my router, opening/forward ports, using DynDNS, etc?

I am hoping that the magic I somehow had access to with uTorrent is not theirs alone.

Thanks.

The best you can do is simply installing Dropbox on your computer, making a folder there, and uploading the .torrent files into that folder from the online Dropbox website. This way your home computer will download the files, qBittorrent will see them and add them one by one.

That said - the best if you just set up port forwarding. If you are paranoid, you can use:
- Port forwarding with SSH on LINUX;
- OpenVPN/VPN on Windows.

Neither is too simple, but they are not hard either. (Heck, setting up a VPN is a nice skill to have.)

Interesting ideas. Still, this seems confirmation that the feature of it being built-in is something uTorrent has but QBittorrent does not. Thanks.

Well, it's easy for them. uTorrent is a for-profit company that makes a fortune each year... So of course they can afford this service - that bridges the client in some manner. If you are bad with computers, simply install "Teamviewer" on your home PC. Use a strong password and use THAT to access your home PC. You can drag and drop files and do anything.

If you do the Dropbox trick, you can load new torrents remotely (even from your phone or any other PC) AND you can control the entire PC qBittorrent included in a safely manner through Teamviewer.
