How do I check if after download commands are working?

I tried with a couple of complex commands that were supposed to help organize my download library, but when I noticed that they were not working I tried a simpler one like

"whoami > D:/Media/log.txt"

but even that didn't produce an output, but I suspect that it may be due to the changes in 4.0. So my question is: what is a command that is supposed to work that I can try to check if I'm the one messing up?
