uploads all of a sudden stopped

Post by davefan19 »

Hello,

I am new(er) to torrents and have just used the software for DMB shows. I used the qBitorrent software and in the past when I left the program open I would see some upload stats and some of the torrents I have downloaded being uploaded.

Since maybe the beginning of this year or so I notice that no matter how long I leave the program open, nothing is uploading. If I understand correctly this is seeding? My apologies if that is the wrong term but hopefully I have explained the situation well enough to understand. I haven't changed any settings on the program. I know that the torrent community wants you to allow help in uploading as much as downloading so I do not want to lose that ability within the different communities. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software but that did not seem to work.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Is qBitTorrent firewalled? (no green light at bottom of its window)

I deleted all of the other torrents I had cached in the program when I did another uninstall. I tried just one to try it out again before I posted on the forums here. In the screenshot you can see that it says status "seeding." When this problem started all of the other torrents that I was getting after the problem were showing in the same manner.  Listed in Seeding, Completed and Active.

I'm not sure if that matters here but just wanted to share that in case it helps figure it out.
I do not see a green light
Well, unlike other BitTorrent programs (which I use too much and confuse with one another) that do use a green light, qBitTorrent has a little green plug -- right next to "DHT: 203 nodes" at the bottom of your screenshot.
And that tells whether qBitTorrent has "seen" incoming connections which means it shouldn't be firewalled.
It's not foolproof, thanks to detecting uTP STUN-based NAT hole-punching or possibly Teredo IPv6 tunneling, but probably means your computer setup isn't blocking qBitTorrent due to some hidden firewall or network mis-configuration.

Your last post screenshot shows a seeding torrent with supposedly 56 seeds and 1 peer. The 1 peer was probably already a seed as well by the time you got the report that 1 peer was available. Uploading there will be impossible unless new peers arrive...and even then it will likely be very slow due to all the "competition" from other seeds.

Thanks for the reply, Switeck. I appreciate it. So it sounds like what you are saying is that everything should be good to go as far as allowing (accepting?) uploads? If that is the case then I guess I'll just hope I can help other people capture the torrent(s) I've made available. It just seemed weird that the first several months I was using this software the upload number was as much as my download number, but like I said at the beginning of the year I've not had any numbers for uploads - all of a sudden seemed like it stopped. So that's why I thought something might be wrong.

But..... if you figure that by the information I've provided everything is good to go then I'll see how it works out.

Should anyone have any other feedback, I'd welcome and appreciate that. Thanks again.
