Hey! For the last ~2 years I had a single 6 Tb HD split into 3 partitions - OS, Video, Music. The new setup will be Samsung EVO 970 for OS, 4 Tb for video and the old 6 Tb for music. I'll be moving 300-400 torrents and was just wondering are there any changes I should make to prevent excessive damage to SSD.
Just to clarify - I won't be downloading to it, just running QB.
Thanks!
Any changes in settings after moving to SSD?
Re: Any changes in settings after moving to SSD?
Running qBitTorrent on a SSD is not a problem -- the OS is certainly far more aggressive than qBitTorrent in writing to the SSD multiple times per minute.
Even strictly seeding from a SSD is not an issue, since that's entirely reads rather than random writes for the torrent.
After qBitTorrent v4.1.something (definitely v4.1.5 and later), qBitTorrent even uses much bigger sequential writes to drives to make downloading to a SSD not nearly as nasty as it used to be.
Newer SSDs made in last 3+ years can handle magnitudes more writes than they used to, and the higher capacity the SSD the less any individual section gets written to due to decreasing odds of targeting that 1 spot and wear leveling. Many can handle 100's of TeraBytes of writes, some can handle >1 PetaByte of writes.
