How to setup Port Triggering in Qbittorrent?

Post by hosa »

The purpose of this post is to uncover knowledge that not only applies to Qbittorrent but also any application in general that needs ports opened..
I have that feature on my router and I have read numerous articles explaining it, except none of these articles said how to configure an application to use it, that is done by forcing the application to use a certain local port inorder for it to register in the router which would be pre-configured also.. however I see that nearly all applications have another feature instead which is uPnP.
So I am pretty confused at the moment,, is port triggering dead, or is there a certain method to make it work?

I have an idea though, but I am not an engineer or programmer so I dont know if it would work... if I only opened certain ports in my Windows Firewall could that force the application to use them?

- just use UPnP. that's default in qBittorrent.
- use a port forwarding not port triggering. basically just keep the port directed to your PC all the time. don't worry, if there is no application (qBittorrent) running, no one will "use" this open port. it's not like hacker movies.
