portforwarding isn't working

Qbittorrent has stalled entirely, and i can't find anything wrong with the settings.  Would very much appreciate step by step guidance via skype or similar, in setting this up.

You've set up the port(s) in your router that you're using in qB, right? I've never had luck with using uPnP so I disable that in qB and define a port in qB and then in my router under the port forwarding page. To check if you're forwarding your chosen port correctly you can use http://www.canyouseeme.org/ .  Ensure qB is not running when you run the test.
Also, ensure your location for the .tor files is correct in qB.

Hello and thanks for your reply. Apologies for the delay in getting back here- the notification went to my spam folder which i don't check often enough.

Canyouseeme.org can't see through my chosen qbt port. I've set up the port forward in the router firmware as best i could as an autodidact with patchy knowledge and shallow understanding, but am wondering whether the settings are right.

The parameters that could be configured for the port forward include;
Application [FTP, SSH, TELNET, SMTP, HTTP_Server, POP3, NTP, SNMP, HTTPS, IKE, syslog, T_120, L2TP, H_323, PPTP, Radius, Radacct, pcAnywhere, VNC, CUSeeMe]
Protocol [tcp, imcp, igmp, ip, ipip, egp, udp, rsvp, grp, ospf, tcp/udp]
External Port number/s
Redirect Port number/s
Internal IP Address

I've configured it as follows;
Application- 'qbittorrent'
Protocol- tcp/udp
Expernal port number/s- the chosen qbt port
Redirect port number/s- the chosen qbt port
Internal IP address- the static IP i've allocated myself.
Interface is- ipwan

UPnP is disabled in qbt.

I'd appreciate being informed if any of my above settings are wrong.

Only thing I see from the image that might not be right is the internal IP address and interface. Usually, on mine anyway, this IP address is 192.168.1.xxx (with xxx being whichever host machine you are pointing to).

1. qB doesn't properly seem to work with UPnP

2. Some routers need a trigger to open the port. No trigger, no connection, no port opening, no UPnP.

3. Your IP indeed might be another problem. Set it in range.

4. The port might be blocked by your ISP (I dont know which port you use, because the MS Paint effect is so awesome)

5. Your router might not be able to port forward Since you've already used a port checker.... number 5 may be my bet. I once got one of those cheap branded things on my own. Read about your model, maybe it's common issue.


edit: I hope you've turned off the firewall for testing. Makes it way easier to locate the problem.

Thankyou loki, avelon.  canyouseeme.org now sees the port, which is a high number in teh thousands i've chosen in a range not commonly blocked by ISPs or used by any other known to me application..  i don't know why, as i've made no changes nor even rebooted.  The speed has been merely poor until now it's around 1mbps which i guess isn't so bad with peers numbering only 11 and seeds 9. i think that's maybe to do with the time of day.  Traffic will just have increased.

The ip's in the range you mentioned loki. i just used the editor to chuck in some random other number that was not in range.
Avelon, in case there's some unknown to me event 'triggering' as you say the router to open that port, what kinds of triggers do you mean, per example? the router's a Billion one for voip.
Upnp is disabled.
The awesome paint type app is the edit part of faststone capture free old version 5.3.  i highly recommend it as it captures scrolling windows.

Anyway, seems qbt is now limping along more or less.  many thanks for your responses.

Glad it worked out and your problem got solved
Port triggering is like port forwarding, but with two differences: no (incoming or outgoing) connection, port closed. That's for security. The downside: port's closed if not triggered. And secondly you actually don't need an (static) IP adress for it, because whenever an application needs it, it speaks through the ports with the router. One port is used for PC - Router (outgoing) and the other port is for Router - Internet (incoming).You like reading (about optimizing your torrent speed)? Give the wiki a try about port triggering! Some routers aren't that well programmed and one has to figure out how it works - or if it works at all. And what kind of port-technique get's used (Forwarding or Triggering).
As it works now, we don't need to assume your router depends on it.

My intention with the 'awesome MS paint effect' was more of a joke :p We can't help you if it came down to a simple thing: the IP adress is out of range. Or you were using a blocked port or the port's for other things like HTTP or System. It should be safe to always use one of the 'dynamic ports' (49152 - 65535). Lower ports beginning from 1024 - 49151 should work, too, but that depends on the 'internet' and your ISP. There are already a lot of ports that are linked to other forms of transmission (Applications). Some got blocked in the past, because malware used it to rapidly spread the infection.
If in doubt, you can always check on a site like this:

We can't hack your system with those ports and your internal IP adress. It's just safe to post them to the internet So it wasn't necessary to blacken them (or, in your case, the 'awesome MS paint effect)'

did get the mspaint joke avelon. sorry abt the too straight response   but you have helped my patchy knowledge by letting me know that it's safe to post the port & internal ip. as we speak i've been trying to work out how to track down a fellow jazz enthusiast, my only peer in this country for a certain recording, by his IP in qbt

port triggering sounds ideal.  will have a read and maybe ring billion.  i like stealthing all mine wherever possible/practical. there's a good site where you can test big slabs of them and various other parameters that are security vulnerabilites.  https://www.grc.com/

You have a router, does it come with a firewall? If so this might be a much better option than Windows firewall. For example Linksys routers come with SPI firewalls. And have a full stealth ability, if desired.

One advice kids: Never install Openwrt. That thing is evil.
The "stable" version couldn't forward ports, and the "usually stable" trunk nearly bricked my router. :/
(The trunk version got installed, and I started set things up through SSH. The wan's pppoe connection couldn't connect, so I checked the wiki from my phone. It said clearly (with small fonts, in the middle of huge text blocks): "Beware, the latest versions of trunk may brick the router." Thanks OpenWRT team!)
