Max upload slots

Post by SebbesApa »

I have a problem with the upload slots. No matter how many slots i allow in the settings qBittorrent never goes higher than 10.
This results in a 10% utilization of my 100 Mbps ISP-link. I want to go up to 90% so i need to increase the slots above 10.

Anyone else experiencing this problem or have a solution?

Using qBittorrent v3.0.8 with Windows 8 64bit.

You should also increase the "active torrents" slots (or make them -1 = infinite)

That does not seem to help. Still only got 10 slots max as total, if I run two torrents they only get 5 slots each.  :-\

What is the value of "maximum number of connections per torrent" in Tool->Options...->Connection->Connection Limits?
I suppose you were talking about the "maximum number of upload slots per torrent" option earlier, right?

Yes. It dosent matter what values I set, I still only get a total of 10 upload slots across all active torrents.  The values in the settings are:

Globbal maximum number of connections: 1000
Maximum number of connections per torrent: 200
maximum number of upload slots per torrent: 100

Have you tried other clients? Do they open up more slots? I am asking, because it may be a firewall/router/hardware problem. (I rarely seed so I haven't tested this)

Yes, I've used both uTorrent and Vuze and they allow me to have as many upload slots as i want.  :-\
Port forwarding etc also works with qBittorrent.

I have this problem as well, even on some of the qBT v3.1.0 alpha builds.
Here's a screenshot of the bug in action:

Sufficient peers are present that I should at least exceed 10 upload slots.

This bug is confirmed and being worked on:

im using version 3.1.9 and this is still the case, there are about 9 upload slots no matter what the setting is, sometimes its up to 11 but the last 2 are insignificant, ... few kb at most.....

nevermind, i was wrong, i have more upload slots active now, ... i guess that depends on how many peers are connected or something

It certainly does, after all. if your client is not uploading to peers, 'upload slots' are redundant.

Trackers and other peers/seeds can report ips of other peers, not all of which are still running the torrent or may be hopelessly firewalled or at connection max...which you won't connect to.
Some peers may connect and quickly disconnect...or remain idle for hours on end. This is often due to hostile ISPs mangling data streams to/from those peers.
Some of the peers you connect to may already have the same torrent parts as you and not attempt to download from your qBT client regardless of your upload slots settings.
Other peers may refuse to download from your qBT client even though you have parts they need because they already are at their max download speed and their client is smartly programmed to not request from too many peers/seeds at once.
There are even sequential downloaders which demand torrent parts in order and refuse "later" parts until they get to that point.

Definitly valid points Switeck.

Setting for example 50 upload slots doesn't mean that you will always have all 50 active. There are several other things that plays a role with it in order to do so.
