What is the meaning of the number on the right side of the availability bar?

It means how many times the torrent is seen completed currently in the swarm. Eg a number of 15.78 means that currently in the swarm, if you could download from all the peers you would have the torrent completed 15 times and 0.78 times. Does this make sense to you?

Thank you. I'm starting to get the gist, but not completely.
So, as long as the number is at least 1, there's a chance I could download all of a file?
Can this number be useful improve performance, or just of interest?

I think it's just notification, or confirmation to you that torrent is currently complete-able. The higher the number, potentially the faster you could download, but not guaranteed.
