Problem with VLC and qbittorrent

Post by wanesmooth »

Qbittorrent 3.0.11. Windoze 7 X(86)-based  ultimate 32bit SP1. VLC 2.1.0 rincewind. OK,Had qbittorrent for a long time. I have had VLC on my system for a long time. It all worked great. All of a sudden VLC is playing up when I am downloading through Qbittorrent. When I turn off qbittorrent,no problem. Sounds like it is buffering, gaps in the music etc. Please tell me its VLC. I've tried a lot of torrent clients and Qbittorrent is the one. Media players are ten a penny. Thanx in advance all. :o)

Damn right, it's VLC..
I've been using it as my backup player for many years (my default player is MPC-HC).
VLC media player v2.1.0 is the most buggy release ever!
I couldn't use it at all on my system, because the sound became totally distorted.
You've better go back to v2.0.8, like I did.

Yes VLC 2.1.0 is very buggy and still its on the main page as stable download. Downgrade is possible but I would advice 2 other players at the moment, my personal favourites:

MPC-HC (combined with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack) - http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm - Complete package, my favourite for years now. MPC-HC is rock solid. You can use it without the package too but with the package is better.
PotPlayer - http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PotPlayer - Formerly KMPlayer developer, made this player from scratch. Great player and being updated very often.

+1!
After the last update KMPlayer was bloated with adds and flash, so i switched to PotPlayer. It's much better, 70MB smaller and without crappy bullshits.

I'm still using vlc 2.0.8 and in some cases 2.0.3 for "older" linux versions... by older I mean Debian stable, which is actually only 3-4 months since release.
So I'm guessing they just released this 2.1 before they worked out all the bugs? There IS a reason Debian stable uses such "old" builds.

My prefered setup is MPC-HC + Xvid (Koepi's) + AC3Filter.

VLC's advantage is that it doesn't install any DirectShow filters, but stores the codecs internaly instead..
That way it doesn't come into conflict with anything else on your system.

That being said, VLC is bloated as hell!
Luckily, I don't have any use for it, except maybe once or twice a year, since MPC-HC plays just about everything I throw at it.

Also, there's another active MPC project called MBP-BE..

I prefer a media player with internal codecs.
For the people, who prefer external codecs, i would recommend to try LAV Filters:

Hey mate, plz read the changelog:

http://mpc-hc.org/2013/09/29/1.7.0-released/

MPC-HC is certainly enough for the vast majority of users without any additions.
