My point was, they give the option of what mode you want to display the program in.
It's being worked on, discussed. But people make it a huge issue and make threats at an OPEN SOURCE, FREE application. What a joke. Go, github.com, start a new project and write a better client. Easy. Right? (this is not aimed at you)
Anyhow, one relevant ticket but you can find a bunch:
https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorr ... 2382561751
To change startup:
1) Click properties on icon
2) Add -style WindowsVista
3) DONE.
To change auto launch:
1) Remove qb from startup
2) Create shortcut with that option
3) Drag it to shell:startup
I am more than happy with the workaround

I completely changed my qt.conf to
[Platforms]
; WindowsArguments = dpiawareness=1
; WindowsArguments = darkmode=2
WindowsArguments = darkmode=1
and it changed to light theme

Thanks for the guide!
I use dark theme in most apps but the moment I saw qBittorrent with dark theme, I wanted to change it back because TBH the colors don't look great and some texts are relatively hard to read.

I registered an account to come report this improvement, but seems like many have already done so.
OP's suggestion worked well on Windows 11 as well, you need to be an admin to do so.
I have it on startup, so doing that config edit is more permanent for me until an update comes along when the devs have time.
Thank you so much for all your hard work!!

I'm having some trouble editing the qt.conf file. I can open it with the Notepad app, but I don't have permission to save a file in that folder (although my user is the only one and an admin). Should I use another file editor?

- you can use Notepad++
- or you can just save the file to Desktop when it tells you it cannot save and then copy this new file from desktop to the "real place"
2024, ease of use

Thanks for the nice guide.
I switched to Light, because the progress bar of ALL torrents (including 100% seeding ones) was a bright, reddish colour.
It didn't feel right. Looking at the UI Theme Configuration section (and various screenshots online) it seems like this colour was reserved for errors of some kind and the default progress bar should be blueish? Anyway, I didn't want to touch the defaults, so Light it is.

I did this ^^ in Win11, and it worked BUT for the main display BUT all my right click drop down menus are in complete darkmode and I can't see the text on the dropdown menus (I can see the colored button icons for the dropdown choices- but text is black against black background).

I have to amend this, since recently discovering it was directly related to the Windows accent colour. I've managed to make the dark theme much better and good enough.
As suggested by others, It's still be a good idea to not rely on Windows colour settings at all.

Open qt.conf with text editor and write:
[Paths]
Translations = translations
[Platforms]
;WindowsArguments = dpiawareness=1
WindowsArguments = darkmode=0

What worked for me (on Windows 11) is going to Options -> Behavior -> Interface -> Style and choosing "windowsvista" in the dropdown menu. Do that, restart the app and you should be good to go! I have both my Windows and app modes set to "dark," but qBittorrent stays light this way. No file editing necessary.

I appreciate all the hard work that went into making this software, but like some of the people in this thread, I made an account explicitly to complain about this update. My exact thought process while deciding to update was "Surely it is just the neccessities. Surely it will not break anything." and I was wrong. It's a small thing, that's true, but it feels like punishment. I now have to invest my time into figuring out how to revert it. As nice as it is for some people to "The Sims" their torrenting application into all the colours they love, to users like myself who like qBittorrent for its simplicity and lightweight design, this feels like a chore. An unnecessary addition. At least make the previous look the default, please.
It seems like the longer a beloved piece of software is alive, the more it is prone to being ruined by updates.
