Fuzzy/Blurry fonts in qbittorrent_5.1.0_x64

I just installed the newest version and the fonts in the main window (torrent list) suddenly turned into some sort of visual terror. As if the font got bolder, fuzzier, blurrier and spacing was too narrow. I tried playing around with the DPI scaling settings in the exe to no avail. Rolling back to qbittorrent_5.0.5_x64 fixed it instantly.

I'm on Windows 11 22H2

Any hidden setting I don't know about or is this some baked in horror?

Sorry, I'm not seeing any difference between the fonts with 5.0.5 and 5.1.0.

My qBitorrent 5.1.0 look normally on Windows 10 22H2 as well.
Maybe you can try changing Style/Color scheme in Option -> Behavior.

It's a ClearType thing. I think 5.1.0 forces cleartype on, and users that were already with it on don't notice the change. I can't stand cleartype and have it off.

The same issue with other applications that use QT, like PCSX2 or RPCS3, where cleartype seems to be forced and it's unpleasant to the eyes. Don't know what to do about it.

Here is another comparison.

1 - 5.1.0 - ClearType Off in windows - Ignored

2 - 5.0.5 - ClearType On in windows

3 - 5.0.5 - ClearType Off in windows

It's the jump from QT 6.7.3 of qbittorrent 5.0.5 to QT 6.9.0 of qbittorrent 5.1.0 that is causing the issue.

I don't know if your eyes are super sensitive or mine are shot, but I don't see any difference between your three example screenshots.

See if your browser is at 100% zoom. If not, try that.

Anything but 100% ruins the ClearType Off example.

You could also save as the .png and open it at 100% in your pic viewer.

Attention! I found a fix!

Add this to the shortcut:
-platform windows:fontengine=gdi
"C:\Program Files\qBittorrent\qbittorrent.exe" -platform windows:fontengine=gdi

Let's go! 8)

An even better solution, in case qbittorrent is launched by opening a .torrent or after an update and it can't pick up the shortcut parameters.

Go to where qbittorrent is installed, open qt.conf and add this line at the end, under [Platforms]
WindowsArguments = fontengine=gdi

Can a developer tell us whether they have fixed it for the next version?
It is very user-unfriendly to have every single QB user to have to set these parameters manually. Also, it means that if they make some changes in the future, everyone will be stuck with the 'fontengine=gdi' setting, even though they may have come up with something better.
