[feature request] don't clobber existing files when reseeding

Post by gojirasan »

I was just trying to reseed a large completed torrent on a private tracker and qbittorrent overwrote my perfectly good copy with .qb files, screwing up my ratio. This should NEVER happen. It shouldn't be necessary for me to write protect the torrent directory to insure that the files are not needlessly redownloaded. As for what went wrong, what made the files not match up perfectly, who knows. It doesn't really matter because it shouldn't happen. Ever. At the very least there should be a dialogue box asking you if you are sure you want to overwrite the existing files with new ones. When you select "import existing torrent" the application should understand that overwriting files is not the behavior that the user wants and that doing so is highly dangerous.

From now on I am going to have to assume that qbittorrent is sometimes going to try to overwrite my files when importing a torrent. I will write protect the files and back them up as well just in case qbittorrent decides to misbehave and do some clobbering. I'm starting to think that the motto for bittorrent clients should be like that for a doctor, "first, do no harm".

edit: Options -> Downloads -> "When adding a torrent" -> "do not start the download automatically" was unchecked. It should be checked by default. Now that I checked it my torrents are no longer getting accidentally clobbered, but I still think a more direct anti-clobber protection should be added.
