2.9.7 - Do Not Download files and 99.9%

Post by ihavefleas »

Hello. I have an issue come up sometimes when I'm trying to download torrents with multiple files and prevent some of the files from downloading. I've read that the issue was a libtorrent bug and was supposedly fixed but I'm still having it come up.

I have the client set up so when I open a new torrent it'll take me to the window where I can check and uncheck files.

Say there are 10 files and I want to download 1, I uncheck all but that 1 and add it to the list. I'll let it download and it'll get to 99.9% and stall. When I check the folder, sometimes there are 1 or 2 extra files in there that I set to not download and sometimes all of them are there. The extra files are broken and inoperable, but the file I wanted is 100% complete and I can copy it out.

This issue has not occurred for me with single file downloads or when I fully download all files in a torrent. It only occurs when setting Do Not Download's. I have tried changing folder setting and turning pre-allocate disk space on and off but it's the same result.

I will note that this does not occur every time. I haven't paid much attention but I've noted that the most recent incident occurred when I added multiple torrents at once.

I can live with it but it gets irritating after a while so if anyone has anything to input it'd be appreciated.

Thank you.

Most likely has to do with the files you not wanting (likely very small) are actually 100% occupied by a chunk to the file you do want, therefore it has no choice but to download it even though you selected it to not download.

Hope that makes since, it's the way torrents work...

In some cases yeah they are small, a couple of kB, but in some cases they are large, 700 MB +. If what you say is the case, then can I assume the client doesn't delete the DND files when it detects the wanted file is complete? Hence leaving the user to do it manually. I know uT does that, but that thing is so commercial now I'd much rather stick with this.

I use the !qb extension, usually always download the full torrent though. From rare ones I do remember it stores the incomplete sections in a hidden folder and "sparse files" until the torrent is deleted.

Yeah on occasion I see a folder inside the torrent folder that's labeled for the skipped files. However I have to delete it manually. This issue is never really consistent. Most of the time it has the incomplete files in there with the complete file, next most common is it downloads just the file I want followed by the added folder for unwanted files. I'm using the qb extension now so I'll see if it makes a difference.

Alright so I've had the issue occur with .!qb attached. I'm going to try 1 last thing before I deem it unavoidable. If there's a difference between adding a torrent by double clicking it or using the File menu in the client.

Issue still occurs. I'm assuming that either qbittorrent or libtorrent assumed most people would fully download torrents so not much attention was paid to the file selection programming. Either or this client still beats the ad filled microtorrent.
