[Solved] Yellow Network Icon

Post by Anthony »

Hello!

First I would like to say I have been very happy with qBittorrent, I recently switched from uTorrent and I'm glad I did. I hope it doesn't go the same way uTorrent did :)

I was trying to download Ubuntu today and noticed the speed was very slow, it started dropping to under 100b/s not kb/s :P after a moment of this I restarted my modem and router, and now the torrent status says "stalled" and the network notification icon at the bottom is yellow.

I looked at my Windows firewall settings and ensured everything was allowed and forwarded properly. I checked the network settings in qBittorrent and made sure that those were set right, UPnP enabled, port number 54984, and then checked my router settings that UPnP is enabled as well as forwarding the port properly.. Or so I thought. I have the router (Linksys EA2700) setup to forward the ports correctly. I know this for sure. After checking on two different port forwarding websites, restarting my router and modem various times, trying DMZ and disabling the firewall, I still cannot get any of the results that I want. I am beginning to think perhaps this is an issue with my ISP? I have tried only a few different port ranges, mostly in the higher numbers, but I did try the PSN ports as well since I had those forwarded anyway. All of them are displaying that it cannot connect.

I hope somebody has some ideas for me, I've exhausted all of mine :(

-edit-

I forgot to mention that I am using static IPs for the PC I am trying to forward the ports to. I have tried single port forwarding to a specific MAC as well as using a "triggered range" forwarding option that my router has.

-edit2-

I believe the problem is with my ISP.. I seem to be behind another router. My current IPv4 address is 10.x.x.x so I am going to have to have a discussion with them tomorrow.

Welcome, always great to see new people here :).

Your stalled problem is most likely caused by your port settings. Yellow icon means that its or not open, or that you are not reachable for others to start downloading (then again has most of the time to do with your port). Let us know how it went so we can look further if needed.

in regards to your edit2, your local IP block from 10.0.0.0-10.255.255.255 is supposed to be private networks only. This is correct if your router is setup to begin allocating with, for example 10.0.0.1. (If you use static addresses make sure it's within the range setup in the router) Make sure you also check that your router WAN-side should be using DHCP unless your ISP says you must use another method... you may also need to MAC clone, I think a few ISP's still require this.
Or perhaps you are part of an unlucky bunch that has ran out of address space, you can't be given an unique IP address since the ISP ran out...? Could it be...

Thanks for the replies!

I have my PC set to acquire a static IP, it is 192.168.1.106. Ports are forwarded properly to this address. I have even attempted DMZ.

The WAN on my router is set up to use DHCP and automatically acquire an address. The address it is acquiring (IPv4) is 10.128.2.158 and if I try restarting to modem or releasing and renewing the IP it does not change.

I do not have any problems browsing the internet, downloading with steam, playing games, etc. but I cannot get a port check tool to find my open ports.

Here you can test your ports if they are open correctly:

http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

If it shows green then its open. First startup qBittorrent before trying this.

Hi and thanks for replying :)

Here is my router configuration, qBittorent, and the port checks.

In case anyone else has this issue, here is what I have discovered.

First of all my case is quite rare, so don't assume you have the same issue!

My ISP has deployed either CGNAT/NAT444/LSN. You can learn more about that here if you're curious: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier-grade_NAT

Possible solutions..

a) Have the ISP in their NAT router forward the ports to the IP of your computer..

b) Upgrading the type of plan that you are on with your ISP. If this is an option, which it is not for me... Example, if you are on a home plan, update to a business plan(?)

c) Consider switching to another ISP who offers a real internet service, if possible. Again, not an option for me...

d) For the long term future, have the ISP get IPv6 working...

All options aren't really available. But anyway... That's that. Thanks for those who helped.

ISP's are going to be really behind the ball until they figure out how/when to actually switch to IPv6. I hope my ISP doesn't implement this feature instead of going for IPv6.
